Historical
Record of the Rymer Family in America
There are two sources we know of, documenting
how and when the Rymer family came to America.
The first was published by Trinity College a
part of Duke University in 1900 titled,
"Historical Papers". To view the relevant pages

link in the left panel. Links to Rymer
Lineage are also in the left column.
The second source was a happy surprise. A guest
at our home was going out and said, "if Clason
Kyle calls tell him I would like to meet him for
dinner". As Clason was an acquaintance, we
invited them both to have dinner with us. During
the conversation, I mentioned my family came to
America in the early 1700's. Clason said, "It
was my family that brought them over". A few
days later he called and loaned me a hard back
copy of his family history. The life of Baron
DeGraffenreid, who was instrumental in bringing
the Rymers to America, was about thirty pages in
length. As the Duke historical papers rely
heavily on DeGrafenreid's account the two
accounts support each other. DeGraffenreid's
life was in more detail, some of the items such
as going to see the governor in Virginia
required several trips. Unfortunately, I do not
have copies of DeGraffenreid's family history.
In addition to the Duke University
documentation, several other documents
referencing Rymers in America were available and
are included, with links in the left panel.
These document the Rymer family from 1710 to
1931. Of necessity only the direct family
members are included.
Information for the lineage chart was derived
from data available including census records,
gravestones, family bibles and the Church of
Latter Day Saints (LDS) also known as the Mormon
Church.
Some of this historical information was passed
down through family stories and agrees with the
data shown here. This includes the fact the
Rymers came to America to escape religious
persecution.
The links shown below are early records (before
1800) of the hardships shared by the Rymer
family with other settlers.
